My name is Malorie Scherf. I grew up in Owasso, OK and directly after graduating high-school I moved to Kansas City to fulfill a degree in Culinary Arts. In the midst of pursuing my career to become a chef, my husband was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes at age 23 and our whole world completely transformed. We immediately changed our lifestyle from partying and eating whatever we wanted, to joining a local gym and educating ourselves about proper nutrition. My husband and I worked out together and he taught me a lot in the gym, but everything about the gym hit me passionately and I never looked back.
I became interested in competing with the NPC after speaking with a local bikini competitor about the federation as I was attracted to her body type and wanted more muscle! I began training like a competitor, eating like a competitor and researching about competitions for an entire year before deciding to prep for a show. Though I started in bikini, it only took two shows for me to make the transition to the figure division as I had always admired the more muscular women. With my gymnastics background, my body was not only built more like a figure competitor but my training style was much more intense and I knew I was making the right decision. Shortly after switching divisions my husband and I moved back to Oklahoma and I took my once thought hobby to the next level and developed that hobby into an everlasting career with the IFBB.
My husband and I are currently living in Tulsa, OK where I work as a cook, as well as, a certified trainer who loves to help and educate people through their fitness journey with my biggest focus being in nutrition. I am in school at Kansas State University’s online global campus pursuing a bachelors degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. My biggest goal is to merge my culinary degree, dietetics degree and my fitness background into a system that will help me reach and inspire as many people as I can within my lifetime. Not only do I have plans to prosper through school but I have huge plans to further my career with the NPC/IFBB!
Pet Peeve in the Gym: My biggest pet peeve in the gym is when people don’t put their weights back! It’s just flat out laziness!
Special Talent: I can do backflips!
Favorite Cheat Meal: Deep Fried Sushi or a Brownie a la mode
Best Fitness Recipe: Whey protein is hard to bake with as most of the products come out dry. I have managed to come up with a recipe for whey protein pancakes that are soft and taste awesome!
Banana Blueberry Coconut Whey Protein Pancakes:
-1 tbsp non-fat plain Greek yogurt
-1 tbsp unsweetened almond milk
-1 large egg
-dash of vanilla
-¼ cup gluten free oats
-1 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut
-1 tbsp ground flaxseed
-½ tsp baking powder
-1 scoop vanilla whey protein
-¼ cup blueberries
-Mix banana, yogurt, almond milk, egg and vanilla until well combined.
-Add in oats, shredded coconut, flaxseed, baking powder and whey and stir until a batter forms.
-heat skillet, pour batter and add blueberries to the batter. Flip when bubbly.
-Top with Walden Farms Pancake Syrup
Best Dieting Tip: The best way to stick to your diet is to only keep your cabinets and refrigerator stocked with the foods that are within your diet or meal plan. If you keep candy and junk laying around the kitchen, you’re more likely to eat it. If your family eats differently than you, that’s ok, just make sure you keep the tempting treats out of reach and put away!
What Inspires You To Excel In Life And The Gym: My husband is my biggest inspiration to live a positive lifestyle. He has taught me to turn ANY and EVERY situation in life into a positive one and as I have practiced this over the years, it has enabled me to accomplish many successes and life fulfilling goals.
I am inspired to excel in the gym because of the lives I have managed to change for the better over the course of my fitness journey thus far. I know that if I continue to improve in the gym, the more opportunity I will have to inspire others to live a more fulfilling and deserving life.
